PILGRIM HAT PLACE CARDS

This craft is easy to make and looks cute on a Thanksgiving table.  Each craft page has a pattern for 2 hat place cards; the boy hat (capotain) and the girl hat (coif).  Start with a paper rectangle and fold it into a 3-D hat.

THE FIRST THANKSGIVING

The first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  The Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people shared a meal to celebrate the harvest season.  The whole meal was prepared by four women and two girls.  They did all of the clean up, too!  The food wasn’t exactly the same as the traditional American meal.  They ate deer meat, fish, clams, eels, and lobster.  The side dishes were squash, beans, and berries.  The Pilgrims didn’t use forks, but they did have spoons and knives.  Most people ate with their fingers.  The Pilgrims often shared cups and plates which lead to the spread of disease.
