MAKE A BUTTERFLY BOWL

This is the time of year when butterflies are everywhere because flowers are everywhere.  This craft is perfect for springtime.  Your kids can color each butterfly any way they choose.  They can be colored with imagination or the kids can color them in patterns that resemble actual butterflies.  The bowl is simple to cut out and assemble.  It can be filled with a springtime snack.  Or the kids can make it for Mother’s Day as a jewelry container.

BUTTERFLY FUN FACTS

  • Butterflies taste with their feet.
  • Butterflies have a tube  tongue.  They drink nectar from flowers.
  • Butterflies lay eggs (Between 500 and 1500 in their lifetime).  The eggs hatch and tiny caterpillars emerge.  When it’s fully grown,  the caterpillar forms a chrysalis around its body.  It emerges from the chrysalis as a butterfly.
  • When they emerge from their chrysalis, butterflies hang upside down for awhile until their wings dry.
  • Most butterflies live a few weeks to a few months.
  • Butterflies help pollinate flowers.
  • Butterflies have two eyes.  Each eye has up to 17,000 lenses.
  • Butterflies can fly at a speed of 5 to 12 miles per hour.
  • Butterflies don’t like to fly in the rain.  Their wings get waterlogged and heavy.
  • Butterflies don’t sleep.  They rest at night by hanging upside down from leaves or branches.
