MAKE A RAINBOW

The rainbow ruler is a paper compass.  You can use it to draw 7 different sized arcs.  When you color each arc, you’ll have a perfect rainbow!

RAINBOW FUN FACTS:

  • Earth is the only planet in our solar system with rainbows.
  • A rainbow is created when light passes through a spectrum.  When raindrops are falling, they create a spectrum.  As the light flows through them, it projects a rainbow in the sky.
  • In scientific terms:  A rainbow occurs when light is reflected inside a raindrop and refracted out into the air.
  • The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that a rainbow was a path from Earth to Mt. Olympus where the gods lived.
  • Rainbows are actually a circle when seen from an airplane.  There’s nothing at the end of a rainbow because a rainbow has no end.
  • The colors of a rainbow from top to bottom are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
  • Rainbows are a symbol of hope to many people.
  • Depending on the conditions, rainbows can last from a few seconds to several hours.
  • It’s not possible to touch a rainbow.  Rainbows are an optical illusion, not a physical object.
